Universal Music Group announces 0207 Def Jam

Universal Music Group announced “0207 Def Jam” on the morning of November 27th 2020.

“0207” is the area code of central London, and is relevant because this “frontline label” will be the UK portion of the Def Jam label and brand. This label will function as an extension of Def Jam in the United States, and will focus more on British and U.K releases. 

Alex and Alec Boateng are set to serve as co-presidents for the 0207 Def Jam label. Both have had experience leading other labels and groups, such as Warner Music Group and Island Records. The Island Records 11 year veteran, Amy Tettey, will become their managing director. 

2020 was an interesting year for labels, and especially labels and brands trying to expand internationally. Warner Music established a branch in India, and Sony Music created new headquarters in Germany last month.

This was a big move for Universal, as they continue expand their presence in other territories around the world.
