JPay is a company that focuses on creating tablets for incarcerated individuals to stay in touch with their loved ones. Based in Miramar, Florida, JPay was founded in 2002 by CEO Ryan Shapiro, and in 2009, their services expanded into offering MP3s for incarcerated individuals with their “JP3” player. In 2012, JPay began creating tablets for their services to incarcerated individuals, dubbed the JP4. Their goal is to become the nation’s digital consumer app for many prisons.

  • JPay provides services to 1.5 million inmates across 35 states.


  • The JP6S tablet is their most advanced tablet, offering a large screen with better resolution compared to their other tablets, and has 32 GB of storage offered. 


  • A user with a JPay account can manage and purchase many things for the incarcerated individual, such as songs/albums, games, and movies. 


  • JPay is one of the corporate supporters of the Creative Corrections Education Foundation, and in 2014, provided $65,000 worth of scholarships.
