Soundcloud Offers Direct Artist Payments
According to reports, Soundcloud is moving towards a fan-to-artist payment model, which would bring them closer in their competition with Bandcamp.
Soundcloud has been using the “pro-rata” model, which only really benefits the big artists and provides little to no financial support to the majority of users on their platform.
Soundcloud is changing its model to allow fans to directly pay artists on the platform.
This change in payment method is the first big and notable move of Soundcloud’s new CEO, Michel Weissman.
A lot of independent artists get their start on Bandcamp, and this change in payment model brings Soundcloud closer to being the main service independent artists would use to upload music directly for fans.
The pandemic has been hard for many artists, so allowing artists to be paid on their platform directly as another revenue source is fantastic news.
