SOPHIE, inspirational pop icon, dead at 34

SOPHIE, grammy nominated pop icon, died at around 4am on January 30th after falling from a three story high balcony. Sophie’s publicist confirmed the news in a statement:


"It is with profound sadness that I have to inform you that musician and producer SOPHIE passed away this morning around 4am in Athens, where the artist had been living, following a sudden accident."


Reports say the artist was in Athens, attempting to take a picture of the full moon when she accidentally slipped and fell three stories. Her girlfriend said that SOPHIE did not die immediately, and "it took the police and fire brigade around 90 minutes to get her out" and get her to the hospital. 


SOPHIE has collaborated with highly prolific acts such as Charlie XCX, Flume, Vince Staples, A.G. Cook, Cecile Believe and many more. Her 2018 album, Oil of Every Pearl's Un-Insides, was nominated for three awards including:

  • Best Dance/Electronic Album - Libera Awards


  • Best Creative Packaging - AIM Independent Music Awards


SOPHIE’s death struck the music world by a deadly surprise, and artists such as Rihanna, Flying Lotus, Finneas, Sam Smith, FKA Twigs, Vince Staples, and many others expressed their condolences.
