Phil Spector, a renowned music producer -- also convicted in 2009 of murdering actress Lana Clarkson -- died Saturday at 81 years old. His death was announced by the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. There is no official cause of death at this time.

Phil Spector produced many of the greatest 20th century recordings, including records by Stevie Wonder, The Beatles, The Beach Boys, The Ramones and many more.

Up until the Lana Clarkson incident in 2003, there was a long period of inactivity in Phil Spector’s life. He did not produce an album since the 70’s, and there wasn't much going on that involved him.

"I have devils inside that fight me," Spector told Mick Brown in an interview in 2007. "And I am my own worst enemy. And for all intents and purposes, I'd say I'm probably relatively insane."
