BMI & ASCAP launch Joint Database, SONGVIEW

ASCAP and BMI have joined forces to launch a new service called “SONGVIEW”, which is a comprehensive database for repertoire in the BMI and ASCAP catalog.

In the growing music industry, it has been harder to locate specific information on records, because of varying PRO affiliations and the lack of a central database. With SONGVIEW, an individual will be able to search for a record and data will come up from both BMI and ASCAP. This will help people find repertoire and writer information much easier than before.

Information presented on SONGVIEW includes:

  • Writers and their affiliations
  • Publishers
  • Publisher contact information
  • Performers
  • Alternate song titles
  • ISWC and Work Numbers
  • BMI and ASCAP Song IDs

The ASCAP CEO, Elizabeth Matthews, said in a statement:

“This project is all about providing greater transparency for everyone who relies on this copyright data to guide important business decisions. When you see the SONGVIEW checkmark, you know that the data is consistent in both ASCAP and BMI’s copyright systems. Drawing upon our 185 years of combined ASCAP and BMI expertise in managing complex and dynamic copyright data, we have built a convenient new digital tool for anyone who licenses music. This release is our first iteration of SONGVIEW, and we are committed to enhancing this new platform as our industry evolves."
